Louise Erdrich writes literary fiction. Her novels (Tracks, for one) are being included in college curricula for students studying American Literature. They were nominated for and awarded high literary prizes. They are profound and lyrical. They are passionate and unforgettable.
Part German and part Native American, Erdrich writes about both cultures, but she takes a special interest in her Indian ancestors, addressing their problems, trying to preserve her heritage. Which is admirable and respectable.
